ls love contagious? The #LoveHoustonArt Wall creators certainly think so. Every day more than 22,000 vehicles pass within a few feet  of their Houston hair salon . The smart business move may have been to put up a large sign to advertise the salon to this constant stream of potential clients. But that didn’t seem right to owners Rachel Gower and her husband Brian Williard. They have lived inHouston for more than twenty years and want to spread their love for Houston and it’s diverse population to residents and visitors alike. This February, Houston will host Super Bowl 51 and nearly half a million visi tors will stream into the city from all corners of the world. As the #LoveHouston Art Wall is located on one of Houston’s busiest streets, many Super Bowl 51 visitorswill see the message…and hopefully take it home with them. Gower acknowledged the timing of the art wall installation with the Super Bowl by saying, “We love Houston and all of it’s amazing people. Our hope is to show the world how America’s most diverse city can live, love and thrive together.”

After designing the #LoveHouston Art Wall, Gower and Williard turned to Guido Schindler to help turn their vision into reality. Schindler, a Swiss born master metal smith who has worked on numerous museum projects, sculpted and insta lled the art wall. Schindler has performed sculpture repair on the Louis Armstrong, Anthony Caro and Mark Disuevero sculptures and was responsible for the Jim Dine Heart installation at Houston’s Discovery Green. Prior to installation, Cesar Reyna gave the #LoveHoustonsculpture it’s consistent , industrial look with an acid wash finish and matte cle.ar coat which will help protect it from Houston’s hot and humid weather.

Next to the signatures is the word “BELIEVE” to highlight that Houston, as America’s most diverse city, can lead the world to a more tolerant, accepting and prosperous future. The #LoveHouston Art Wall was installed on Friday, October 21, 2016 which would have been the 183rd birthday of Alfred Nobel who established and endowed the Nobel Peace Prize. The#LoveHouston Art Wall is located at 1800 Westheimer Road at Woodhead in the River Oaks/Montrosearea.

The #LoveHouston Art Wall also features a website. Hashtaglovehouston.com is the dynamic extension of the art wall. Both the #LoveHouston Art Wall and the website were created to inspire residents and visitors alike to love the city and it’s residents. The website’s mission is to actively bring this message to people by sharing blog and social media posts about the people, places and organizations that make Houston great. The website is also looking for guest bloggers to share who and what they love about Houston.
